Boundary Buzz
Boundary Buzz was a hub for celebrating the moment-to-moment action of the Cricket World Cup. Follow the match through an array of characterful animations or customise and share your own. Working for agency Toaster, I ideated on the character design and worked alongside Olof Storm in animating 60+ unique scenes.
Every animation could be customised for each international team. There were also several unique animations each team.
Visual Commentating, the Boundary Buzz site and social media accounts would post animated reaction tweets to key in-game events as they happen. Users could also customise and share their own!
Initial art tests explored differing levels of character fidelity. Each had its own flavour of animation. I also explored texture and print styles.
Cricket umpires are famed for their numerous hand signals, each for a different game judgement.
Part of exploring levels of fidelity was making players recognizable without creating caricatures: M.S. Dhoni, Ravinder Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
